Join us on September 17th, 2022 for PIERMONT HERITAGE DAY
This celebration of Piermont will begin at 12pm in Flywheel Park with the unveiling of the Thomas Pomplin Memorial:
'Pomp' as he was known in his time, died at 28 years old in 1854, the first Rockland County firefighter lost in the line of duty
Because Pomplin was black, he was denied the distinction
Dan Goswick and Empire Hose members, driving forces behind this belated recognition, hope that the entire Village will join the firefighting and emergency service community in honor and celebration
The formal ceremonies are expected to last an hour with attendees lingering in both the Village and at Goswick Pavilion
Then at 5pm, Gair Memorial Park will be transformed into an information gateway, realizing the promise of our historic downtown:
The permanent installation of eight panels will be revealed
These beautiful panels share information about Village history, the river, local recreation, wayfaring to our many businesses, and more
The festivities will include music and surprises, and are expected to last an hour
